Candidates should have expertise in theoretical, artistic and creative approaches in Media Studies, including significant expertise in documentary and/or fiction filmmaking, preferably related to screenwriting or dramaturgy, and familiarity with ongoing developments in audiovisual narratology such as VR storytelling and inclusive screenwriting. Candidates must have an active network among Dutch film professionals as well as experience with using artistic research as an academic methodology. Experience in programme coordination is an added benefit. The successful candidate will be a member of the subject team for Film Studies and of the teaching team in Documentary and Fiction.

What are you going to do?

​​Lecturers are expected to be able to teach a variety of subjects in the Media and Culture BA as well as in the Documentary & Fiction MA. Teaching duties will also include mentoring students in internships and supervising Master’s and Bachlor’s theses, as well as tasks in programme and internship coordination.

Tasks and responsibilities 
Together with colleagues or independently, you will be teaching in the Media Studies BA programme, specifically in the track Media and Culture, and in the Documentary & Fiction MA programme. 

Your tasks will comprise: 

  • delivering lectures and teaching seminar groups;
  • marking assignments, papers and/or theses, providing input on tests and test questions, entering marks;
  • attending meetings, preparing for teaching, updating and developing course materials or assignments according to relevant teaching methods, working in collaboration with colleagues and the course coordinator; 
  • coordinating practical matters related to lectures, seminars, internships and the programmes;
  • supervising theses (Bachelor’s and Master’s) and providing other individual supervision to students (mentoring and internships).

Candidates need to have the following qualifications:

  • minimum qualification: a PhD in Artistic Research, Media Studies, or a related discipline;
  • pedagogical/didactic competence: able to foster students’ understanding, to teach and update an existing curriculum, to supervise students and to make an active contribution in meetings with fellow lecturers;
  • teaching experience at university level, preferably with a focus on Film relating to artistic research and creative industries and practices;
  • affinity with ICTs in academic education and experience with digital and audio-visual equipment;
  • team spirit and a willingness to participate in activities of the Film team and to collaborate in teaching teams; 
  • administrative experience and skills, especially in programme coordination;
  • University Teaching Qualification, or willingness to acquire this within three years; 
  • ability to teach in English;
  • native or near-native command of Dutch.

This is what we offer you

We offer a temporary-fixed contract (1 year temporary, thereafter fixed) with a probationary period of two months. The employment contract is for 30.4 hours a week. The preferred starting date is ​01 August 2025​.

Your salary, depending on relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract, ranges between € 4,537 - € 6,209 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8,3% year-end allowance. Favourable tax agreements may apply to applicants moving from abroad. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
