As Legal Assistant you are the person who fully understands the Academic Standards & Procedures (AS&P). You will support the Board of Examiners (university lecturers) in handling legal student requests, appeals and safeguarding good academic conduct and handling suspected plagiarism cases. Your task will include the preparation, processing and documentation of all cases that the Board of Examiners and appeals board (COBEX) handles. This includes setting the agenda for the upcoming board meeting, documenting decisions and informing students. Clear communication and cooperation with colleagues in the Registrar and Admissions office and the academic staff is essential.
You will be the central point for questions from colleagues and students about the rules and regulations and their practical implications within the programme. This will involve the organisation of student requests in ServiceNow, organisation of meetings in Microsoft Teams, and being able to access information in a number of other databases. You will also report annually on BoE’s workload, settlements and hearings.
The work of a Legal Assistant is essential in the dynamic environment of education, where situations rise suddenly and students may be worried about the outcome of their requests. This requires flexibility of the legal assistant to jump into action at the right time, while also finding the calm to continue to work on the further development and training of all involved parties in the BoE.
The legal field is ever changing, and to keep you up to date on developments in the world field, we offer you the possibility to follow (legal) courses at UvA as an employee.
