Can spectroscopy reveal how a breathable material knows when to seal? In this PhD project, you will develop responsive MOF-peptide coatings for adaptive protection and follow their chemistry in real time. You will combine porous-material synthesis, thin-film preparation and in situ infrared spectroscopy to connect molecular reactions, peptide self-assembly and macroscopic sealing.

Can multiscale simulations and AI predict how a breathable material knows when to seal? In this PhD project, you will develop responsive MOF-peptide coatings for adaptive surface functionalization and derive design rules to understand their chemistry and physics. You will combine coarse-grained and atomistic simulations with surrogate models and experimental insights (with Dr. Baumgartner) to understand the adaptive properties of peptide-coated MOFs (e.g. breathability, aggregation, chemical reactions) and derive design rules to guide experimental testing.
