All first-year students will be enrolled in Principles of Economics and Business 1 and Principles of Economics and Business 2. During this course students will obtain an overview and comprehensive knowledge of the main themes and subjects in economics and business. The course will focus on the theoretical concepts, their intellectual history and meaning, and their importance for understanding real phenomena in society. Moreover, a foundation will be laid for students to independently carry out academic research and relate their findings to the existing academic literature. This includes learning how to search for academic literature and how to read and evaluate it based on academic economic and/or business administration articles.
During the course the student-assistant has to discuss literature related to the topic of that particular week. At the end of the first period the students will write an assignment which will be graded by the student-assistant. In the third period student-assistants will supervise students during the writing process of the first academic paper they have to write.
