Tasks and responsibilities

The Asser Institute, based in The Hague, is seeking an enthusiastic Event Manager Education & Events team with a can-do mentality, who will be responsible for the seamless delivery of multiple events and trainings for a variety of national and international stakeholders. A highly organized, culturally and politically sensitive individual with a keen eye to detail and excellent command of English. The new colleague will work closely together with two Events Managers Education & Events. The team initiates and implements, together with researchers, (tailor-made) education activities and events, such as (online) summer courses, spring academies, training programmes at a post-graduate level, conferences, seminars, book launches and lecture series in the Netherlands as well as abroad. The events are very diverse and include topics such as countering terrorism, the rule of law, disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, corporate social responsibility, better regulation in the European Union, sports law, other current affairs and many more. The Event Manager will report directly to the Managing Director.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Planning, organising, delivering following-up, evaluation, and reporting on (international) events and training programmes;
  • Arranging all logistical aspects of (online) trainings and events including: event venue selection and negotiations, registration of guests, arranging travel and accommodation for (international) speakers and participants, study visits, catering, interpreters and compiling training and conference materials;
  • Ensuring that events or trainings are implemented within the set objectives, quality standards, and allocated budgets;
  • Communicating with (international) participants and speakers in the lead-up, during and after an event or training;
  • Developing logistical action plans: planning and briefing of staff and suppliers (catering, technical assistance etc.) to coordinate specific tasks during event days and trainings;
  • Attending and bearing logistical responsibility for training courses and events on-site (including social activities).
  • Developing and regular monitoring of budgets in close consultation with Finance as well as performing other administrative tasks;
  • Coordinate with third parties such as co-organizing organizations and/ or funding partners.

What we ask of you

Requirements and competencies

Candidates are expected to meet the following requirements and have the following competencies:

  • A finished and relevant education, an HBO Bachelor’s degree or WO Master’s degree equivalent (e.g. in International Law, European/ International studies);
  • At least two years of demonstrable event/ project management experience, preferably in an international environment;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (English). Proficiency in other languages (especially Dutch, French and/or Spanish) is a distinct advantage;
  • Good planning, time management, negotiating and organizational skills;
  • Willing to occasionally work irregular hours and to travel abroad;
  • Able to handle multiple projects independently and simultaneously and able to perform under pressure in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment;
  • Pro-active, strong interpersonal, intercultural, networking and representation skills;
  • A true team player with a good sense of humour.

This is what we offer you

We offer an appointment for 38 hours a week, initially for the period of one year with a probationary period of two months, and with the intention to convert into permanent employment. Extension of the appointment is subject to satisfactory performance in this period. Considerations of a financial and/or organisational nature may give rise to not convert to permanent employment. The starting date ideally is the 1st of September 2025. To this position applies UFO profile ‘projectleider 3’ and salary scale 8. Remuneration depends on the actual level of education, experience, and knowledge, and amounts to a minimum of €3.218 and maximum of €4.298 gross per month for full-time work, excluding a holiday allowance (8%) and a year-end bonus (8.3%). The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten) is applicable. A temporary reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates. You will be employed by the University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Law, but seconded to the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in The Hague. Only candidates with permission to work in the Netherlands will be considered.

The T.M.C. Asser Instituut is a research centre in international and European law, based in The Hague, the International City of Peace and Justice. We are affiliated with the University of Amsterdam, the largest university in the Netherlands. The Asser Institute's mission is to contribute to the development of international and European public and private law. We achieve this by:

- Independent legal research: we conduct fundamental, policy-oriented and applied legal research in international and European public and private law. - Knowledge dissemination: we initiate and facilitate academic and expert meetings, (professional) education and public events aimed at disseminating knowledge on international and European public and private law. Furthermore, we share our legal knowledge by contributing to the public debate. Examples of this knowledge dissemination are our training courses for lawyers. We also train judges from Ukraine, collaborate with the Movies that Matter film festival, and organise training sessions and public events for different target groups.
