As Financial Administrator in the Finance and Control (F&C) team of the Asser Institute, your role is to support in general financial administrative tasks, including but not limited to booking purchase invoices, processing reimbursements, and booking bank transactions. It will be your task to support the Financial Controller, who is responsible for overseeing audit, control and compliance tasks, drafts the yearly budget, quarterly prognosis and monthly liquidity overviews, and supports the Executive Board with relevant management information. There is a possibility to grow in the role and gradually take on activities, tasks and responsibilities related to financial control. With the retirement of the financial controller in a few years, there is the option to transition to this role following an open vacancy procedure. To this end, we are seeking a candidate that works independently, brings new ideas, and is willing to grow and develop within the role. Together, you’ll help promote the institute’s mission: advancing international and European law.

All about this vacancy

This is what you will do

  • Responsibility for financial administrative tasks, including but not limited to booking purchase invoices, creating sales invoices, processing reimbursements, preparing payment batches and booking bank transactions;
  • Making sure the financial administration is reliable and up to date, including overseeing financial processes in Exact and related software;
  • Supporting the Financial Controller in related tasks in the F&C department, including on questions related to project reporting and other financial data or information required by colleagues in other supporting teams;
  • Preparing overviews for Management and Auditors, which includes supporting with preparation of yearly and quarterly management information and requests during the interim and final accountant visits;
  • Help improving procedures and financial reporting, such as analyzing and streamlining financial administrative processes.

What we ask of you

  • A finished and relevant education, an HBO Bachelor’s degree or WO Bachelor’s or Master’s degree equivalent (e.g. in Administration, Accounting, Finance);
  • At least 2 years of demonstrable experience, preferably in an international environment;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (English). Proficiency in other languages (especially Dutch) is a distinct advantage;
  • Excellent skills with Excel are required; experience working with Exact is an advantage;
  • Good planning, time management, and organizational skills;
  • Able to handle multiple projects, work independently and accurately, and be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

This is what we offer you

  • We offer an appointment for 16 hours a week, initially for the period of one year with a probationary period of two months, and with the intention of converting into permanent employment.
  • Extension of the appointment is subject to satisfactory performance in this period. Considerations of a financial and/or organisational nature may give rise to not converting to permanent employment. 
  • The starting date ideally is the 16th of November 2026 or sooner. 
  • To this position applies UFO profile ‘Administrateur 2’ and salary scale 9. Remuneration depends on the actual level of education, experience, and knowledge, and amounts to a minimum of €3.873 and maximum of €5.264 gross per month for full-time work, excluding a holiday allowance (8%) and a year-end bonus (8.3%). The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten) is applicable.
  • A temporary reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates.
