The chosen person will be working in a highly diverse European consortium alongside the PI and a postdoctoral researcher. The aim of the Just Streets project is to support cities in promoting, improving and converting to just, equal and active mobility by developing innovative and holistic strategies, and most importantly implementing them, aimed at encouraging transformative urban planning solutions with complementary behavioural changes. In this setting, you will be independently in charge of delivering tasks of the Just Streets project and developing them further into inspiring content and online education tools. Conduct a comparative analysis and a roadmap for safe and sustainable mobility in EU cities;
deliver research based policy advice and recommendations regarding mobility transitions and traffic danger to the Just Streets consortium and European cities;
create and disseminate actionable and engaging content that informs urban planners and policy makers about how to become change agents for socially just and sustainable urban life;
revise and comment Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans of a range of European cities:
develop Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) modules to raise awareness among key stakeholders (planners, policymakers, activists etc.) in order to accelerate mobility transitions;
prepare a tender for the development of a commercially viable MOOC platform.
Master’s degree (or close to graduation) in a relevant field such as Urban planning, Human geography or Sociology;
academic engagement and interest with issues of urban justice and just transitions;
demonstrated communication skills and preferably prior experience in science communication;
proficient English skills (written and verbal);
possibly prior experience with developing online platforms (e.g. websites, socials, Coursera);
you manage your tasks independently and communicate efficiently with a range of different international stakeholders.
The position concerns a temporary employment of 30,4 hours per week (0,8 fte) for a maximum term of 21 months starting in July 2025 (subject to agreement). The initial employment is for six months. Following a positive assessment and barring altered circumstances, this term can be extended. The candidate will have the opportunity to attend training courses and both national and international events. For this position the University Job Classification profile ‘Onderzoeker 4 ’ applies.
