You will teach 1 parallel group of the course Advanced Research Methods and Statistics. The course is principally chosen by Sciences and Social Sciences majors in their second and third year, who have an interest in our health, cognition, and biomedical tracks. The course introduces the students to the methods theoretically, and applying them using SPSS, often using social science survey data. It builds on introductory research methods and statistics courses and teaches students to analyse and interpret science and social science data by using advanced techniques, including, for example, MANOVA, principle component analysis, model selection and diagnostics in multiple linear regression, and logistic regression. This is an existing course with existing course materials. Each course group will have a maximum of 25 students. Classes have been scheduled on Tuesdays and Fridays between 9 February and 29 May 2026.

What you will do

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • teach 2 classes of 1,5 hours each per week on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the teaching period
  • help manage the course Canvas page in collaboration with the other teachers
  • implement already developed assessments and adjust existing course materials where necessary
  • assess students’ work during the course
  • communicate with students and their tutors
  • perform a midterm and final course evaluation
  • participate in peer review once the course has concluded & formulate course adjustments
  • act as course examiner, incl. submitting of final grades

What you have to offer

  • You hold a Ph.D. or had extensive research experience (for example, in statistics, cognition, or biomedical sciences) and have completed advanced training in statistics
  • You have experience as a teacher in higher education
  • You have a strong commitment towards developing excellence in education
  • You have affinity with an interdisciplinary approach to education
  • You have an excellent command of English (C1 level)
  • You are able to create inclusive learning environments where all students feel encouraged to participate and know their contributions are valued
  • You are able to keep a calm head when pressure rises or deadlines are near

Our offer

We offer a temporary employment contract with Jobservice for 12.2 hours per week for a period of 4 months. This position is created to temporarily replace a colleague on sick leave. The preferred starting date is 01 February 2026.

The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between €4.728 to € 6.433 (scale 11). This does not include 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% year-end allowance. The UFO profile Docent 3/Lecturer 3 is applicable. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
