The Department of Communication Science studies communication from a social and behavioral perspective. Research and teaching are broadly organized around four thematic areas within four programme groups: Persuasive Communication; Political Communication and Journalism; Communication, Organizations and Society (COS); and Youth and Media Entertainment. While qualitative methods are featured in our research and teaching, quantitative methodologies are particularly pronounced. Inasmuch, our education in our Bachelor and Master programme heavily features quantitative methods and analytic training so that our students are equipped to answer the most pressing communication science questions.
With more than 2,400 undergraduate and graduate students, Communication Science is among the largest departments at the University of Amsterdam with an outstanding international reputation. The College of Communication and the Graduate School of Communication offer two Bachelor programs (a Dutch and an English track), including minor tracks on Mis- and Disinformation and Communication in the Digital Society, a Master Program, a joint degree program on Journalism, Media and Globalisation (Erasmus Mundus) and a Research Master, the only of its kind in the Netherlands. The teaching in our Communication Science program is interdisciplinary and internationally oriented.
