All about this vacancy

What are you going to do?

You will

  • conduct molecular biology experiments such as DNA/RNA extraction and cloning;
  • perform cutting-edge next generation sequencing techniques;
  • help PhD students, postdocs, and other researchers to generate high-quality data for publication;
  • purchase and maintenance of laboratory equipment and consumables;
  • contribute to teaching experimental skills to students and interns.

Your experience and profile 

You have/are

  • a Bachelor (HBO) or MSc degree in molecular biology, microbiology, or a related field;
  • experienced: hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, preferably including NGS library preparation;
  • detail-oriented: very organized and precise in your work;
  • collaborative: able to work effectively with a diverse team/department;
  • communicative: proficient in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Our offer

We offer a temporary contract for 38 (1.0 FTE) hours a week, preferably starting on 1 June 2025 or later, for the duration of 12 months.  An extension for 36 months subsequently follows if we assess your performance positive. 

The salary, depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be € 2,899 to € 3,809 (scale 7) gross per month, based on a fulltime contract (38 hours a week). This is exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable. 

Besides the salary and a vibrant and challenging environment at Science Park we offer you multiple fringe benefits:

  • 232 holiday hours per year (based on fulltime employment);
  • multiple courses to follow from our Teaching and Learning Centre;
  • a pension at ABP for which UvA pays two third part of the contribution;
  • the possibility to follow courses to learn Dutch;
  • help with housing for a studio or small apartment when you’re moving from abroad.
