All about this vacancy

What you will do

The dean is the college’s educational and academic leader committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research. Bearing responsibility for the college overall and its day-to-day management, the dean oversees programme development, student recruitment, management and development of academic and support staff, quality assurance, college facilities and budget. The dean stimulates participation and collaboration with relevant research groups, fellow educational directors and staff of the faculties involved and with the University of Amsterdam as a whole. She or he maintains and extends PPLE’s network of international partners and further develops the alumni and scholarship programme. In these tasks, the dean is supported by the other two members of the management team: a programme director and a managing director. The dean also plays a role in the law faculty's governance where relevant to the college.

What we expect from you

You also:

  • Demonstrate the ability to connect people, provide vision, and operate strategically in your leadership role;
  • Engage actively and effectively in networking, both within and outside the University of Amsterdam;
  • Have experience in operating in an administratively complex environment;
  • Are socially engaged and committed to education’s broader societal role;
  • Have an excellent command of English and a good command of Dutch.

What we offer you

The position of dean is a temporary role of scientific staff for a period of 4 years, that can be extended a maximum of two times. The appointment is for a maximum of 22.8 hours a week (0.6 FTE) at the Faculty of Law as ‘Onderwijsdirecteur’, depending on your position and experience.
